Work related injuries can create unnecessary setbacks for an employee or organization. Occupational therapists have great value in the area of ergonomics because they the dynamic interactions of the person, their task and the context and their environment. Therefore, occupational therapists who might specialize in ergonomics have the skills to improve the function of people interacting within a complex system of relationships and environmental factors at work.

With the role of Occupational Therapists and Occupational Health Nurses expanding into occupational health, safety and wellness, there is a greater need for OTs and OHNs to improve their knowledge and skills to practise electively in places of work. This course is designed to equip OTs with the skills to help improve the physical, mental and psychosocial health of people at work, within an organisational framework.

Ergonomics and the vocational OT course is designed by Lyndsey Swart to enable you to confidently carryout ergonomic adjustments or recommendations in the workplace. Here you will learn to; advocate and promote health and wellness in the workplace as well as injury prevention programmes, Design and modify workplace tools and equipment to help prevent injury and Consult with employers and insurance companies on developing programs to reduce compensation costs. The course will also help you to understand the new white paper on “ergonomics at work” and the implications that it has on the role of Occupational therapy in the workplace.
